Patricia had been battling Alzheimer’s disease for approximately ten years, and her health was further compromised when she contracted COVID-19. In his heartfelt tribute, Engelbert described her passing as occurring “as if by God’s clockwork,” with the family gathered around her, including their son Scott via FaceTime. He expressed immense gratitude for the presence of their nephew, Father Paul, who administered the last rites with love and familiarity. Engelbert wrote, “We were so grateful to have him gently lead Popea through this last chapter, with a familiar voice and such love.”
In his message, Engelbert reflected on Patricia’s courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, noting that she “never resisted as we tried to leave no stone unturned.” He concluded with a poignant farewell: “We love you beyond words, forever and always. It is slipping now into the minutes of a full day without you. Goodnight my baby.”
